A Heap of Anime Updates Landed Over the Festive Season
The Yuletide season offer a multitude of pastimes far superior than scanning the headlines: discovering surprises, indulging in delicious food, and employing deep breathing to refrain from arguing with relatives. It is wished you were able to do all these things and more. Nevertheless, the world of entertainment never sleeps, and this is particularly true for the realm of anime. Many noteworthy developments came out during the break, and just in case you missed any, here is a summary of the juiciest bits.
The One-Punch Man Series Its Third Season Is Set to Continue (In 2027)
Without a doubt the biggest announcement, the notorious disaster that was the third season of One-Punch Man wasn't enough to deter more episodes. The show will return with a second cour in 2027—so far away they might as well have labeled it season 4. Even more shocking, animation studio J.C. Staff will continue to be at the helm. At least this time, director Shinpei Nagai is set to direct from the outset, which could be taken as a good sign. Yet, the key visual for the continuation is a mirror of the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou looking opposite ways. This leads one to believe that, by now, they must be teasing the fans.
Ruri Dragon Is Set to Be the First Shonen Jump Anime Produced By Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has established a name for being an prestigious animation studio, making its mark not just for the exceptional quality of its productions but for the ethical practices of its employees—a uncommon practice in the industry. Surprisingly, until now, it had never worked on an anime based on a manga published in Shonen Jump, perhaps the most iconic magazine in the field. Ruri Dragon will end that streak, and what a excellent choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo achieved massive popularity when it first appeared in 2022 after just a small number of issues, but then went into a lengthy break due to the author's health issues. When it came back with a reduced workload, the series demonstrated it hadn't lost the fans' affection and positive sentiment, and now the community is ecstatic about the upcoming KyoAni adaptation.
The Kingdom Series Season 6 Is Getting a Follow-Up In Production
Kingdom is the best-selling, epic Shueisha manga that is other than One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only just received an English translation, but the anime has been going on for some time, and season 6 was a further outstanding entry. Apparently that was just the first half, because a "sequel" has been announced as in development, and it will probably air in 2026.
Science Saru Is Adapting A Witch in Mongolia To Anime
Another studio known for the superior craftsmanship of its productions, Science Saru has given us critically acclaimed works of the ilk of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, lastly, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be taking on the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, inspired by the true story of Fatima, an influential woman and intellectual in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. From the trailer, the anime called Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a highly unique and intriguing visual style, which evokes Ranking of Kings. Debuting in July 2026, this one will absolutely be on my must-watch list.
Tougen Anki Will Return With a Season Two
Right after the airing of episode 24, it was announced that Tougen Anki will be receiving a second season. Adapted from the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki adapts the manga by Yura Urushibara. The upcoming season of the anime will cover the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a specific air date has not yet been announced.
