Anthony Joshua Discharged from Hospital in Lagos Following Tragic Road Accident
Former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has left the medical facility, Nigerian authorities confirmed on Wednesday evening. The athlete was involved in a car accident outside Lagos on December 29th, a horrific crash that resulted in the deaths of two of his team members.
Recovering from Minor Injuries
Joshua had remained in the hospital while recovering from minor injuries, representatives stated earlier on Monday. The commissioner for information and strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, said in a statement on social media that Joshua was declared medically stable to leave and heal privately.
“Joshua and his mother were at the funeral home in Lagos this afternoon to offer their condolences to his two deceased friends as they were being made ready for the journey back,” the official remarked.
Honoring the Deceased
The victims of the crash were confirmed to be Latif Ayodele, a fitness coach, and Sina Ghami, a strength and conditioning coach. The official further stated that the athlete was heartbroken and full of emotions over the passing of his two trusted companions.”
The news of his discharge comes as the boxing community offered its support for the champion in the wake of the devastating accident.
