Quoting a Classic: Cary Elwes Remembers His Director
Sharing on social media, actor Cary Elwes, who was featured in Reiner's 1987 classic *The Princess Bride*, explained he only now felt prepared to share openly about his deep grief.
"Sufficient time has gone by that I can now express my sorrow into words," posted Elwes, adding that his initial encounter with Reiner made him fall in love. "When we commenced passing more hours together I realized this was someone I wanted in my life."
The actor shared behind-the-scenes footage from the film, commenting that he could not remember "one day without mirth".
"This story is about affection, allegiance and giving. Values that Rob cherished deeply. That is part of the many reasons he was the perfect person to direct it," Elwes expressed.
He additionally honored Michele Reiner, noting: "To say that they were a formidable pair would be an oversimplification. My heart still hurts every time I think of you." He ended with a quote from *The Princess Bride*: "Sure, death cannot stop true love but existence is agony without you."
Martin Scorsese Reflects on a Colleague and Comrade
In a different essay, acclaimed director Martin Scorsese shared memories of Reiner, whom he first met in the 1970s.
"From the start, I loved hanging out with Rob. We had a innate rapport for each other. He was uproarious and sometimes bitingly funny, but he was never the kind of guy who would dominate the room," Scorsese said.
Scorsese highlighted Reiner's supporting role in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, playing the father of the main character.
"He was skilled at improv with the best. He was a master at comedy, he worked beautifully with his co-stars, and he grasped the personal struggle of his character," Scorsese added.
Legal Developments: Autopsy Reports Sealed
Recently, a Los Angeles judge decided to block the release of the Reiners' autopsy reports, following a petition from the LAPD.
A legal directive placed a restriction on the cases to restrict the public release of "related notes, evidence and photographs" associated with the active case.
The Medical Examiner's office had already determined their deaths were the outcome of murder, with a record listing the cause as "wounds from an edged weapon".
